You can fill a catalogue in several ways. Choose the one that matches what you already have. Incomplete work is welcome, so save what you know now and complete the rest later.

## Choose a way

**By hand.** Choose **Add a work** on the **Catalogue** tab to type in a work. See [Add a work by hand](/docs/workspace/add-works/by-hand).

**From a spreadsheet.** Choose **Import a file (CSV, TSV, Excel or CWR)** when your works are in a CSV, TSV or Excel file. You match its columns, then check the result before saving. See [Import a spreadsheet](/docs/workspace/add-works/spreadsheet) and [Review an import before saving](/docs/workspace/add-works/review).

**From a CWR file.** The same button takes a `.V21` file made for a society. The Workspace keeps the original and lets you choose which works to save. See [Import a CWR file](/docs/workspace/add-works/cwr-file).

**From a Workbench draft.** If you started in the free [CWR Workbench](https://trackforge.studio/cwr-tool), its **Save to workspace** button brings the draft here. See [Bring in a draft from the Workbench](/docs/workspace/add-works/from-the-workbench).

**Old files as a record.** Registration files you sent before, and the societies' replies, are not a way to add works. They are kept as a record and compared with your catalogue. Once your catalogue has works, **Today** offers **Bring in old files and replies**. See [Upload your registration history](/docs/workspace/files/registration-history).

**Add a work** and **Import a file (CSV, TSV, Excel or CWR)** are also in the **Get set up** card on **Today** while you are setting up.

## What happens when you import

What happens when you import works: you choose a file, check each item and choose what happens to it, and nothing reaches your catalogue until you save.

## Good to know

- With view-only access to a workspace you do not see these buttons.
- Works count towards your allowance across all catalogues. See [Finding your way around](/docs/workspace/finding-your-way).
- Adding works sends nothing to a society. You prepare a file, download it, send it yourself and record that you sent it.
