An agreement is a record of the facts of a publishing deal, kept once and reused across your workspace. Record it, then link the works it covers. Saving an agreement or a link does not change any work's rights, its agreement numbers or a prepared file.

## Open your agreements

1. Open **Catalogue** and press **Agreements**.
2. Search with **Find agreement**. The list shows each agreement's name and type, with a count.
3. Choose one to read it. If you can only look, you can read it and its links but not change them.

## Add or edit an agreement

You need to be an owner or editor.

1. Press **Add agreement**, or choose an agreement to edit. The card reads **New agreement** or **Agreement · version** and a number.
2. Fill in **Agreement name**, which is needed to save. Choose an **Agreement type**: **Publishing**, **Administration**, **Sub-publishing** or **Other**. Add a **Start date** and **End date** if you know them.
3. Under **Parties**, press **Add agreement party** for each. Give a name, a role in your own words and, if you know it, the [IPI](/docs/cwr/glossary#ipi): 9 to 11 digits, leading zeros kept. If the last two digits do not fit, the box warns but you can still save.
4. Under **Territories**, press **Add agreement territory** and type the name or expression your agreement uses. Tick **Exclude territory** for one the agreement leaves out.
5. Under **Society agreement numbers**, press **Add society number**, choose the society and enter its number.
6. Add anything else under **Agreement notes**.
7. Press **Save agreement**. The screen reads **Agreement saved. Existing work rights are unchanged.**

If the save is refused, check that every party and territory has a name, that every society number has both a society and a number, and that the **End date** is not before the **Start date**. Fill in or remove the row, then save again.

Each party, territory and number has a remove button. **Download…** on a saved agreement offers **Excel (.xlsx)**, **CSV (.zip)** and **JSON**.

## Link works to an agreement

On a saved agreement, **Linked works and publishing arrangements** lists what it covers: the work's title and reference, **Whole work** or a publishing arrangement, and the version it was linked at.

1. In **Find a work to link**, search and press **Search workspace works**.
2. Choose a work from the matches.
3. In **Link applies to**, choose **Whole work** or one publishing arrangement.
4. Press **Link saved work**.

To take a link off, press **Remove link to** beside it. The works are left alone. If an arrangement has since gone from the work, its link stays with a warning for you to review. Links are switched off while the agreement has unsaved changes. Save first.

## If you leave without saving

An unsaved agreement is kept in this browser for 24 hours. When you come back, the screen says it recovered your draft. While changes are unsaved you cannot move to another part of the Workspace, and closing the tab asks you to confirm. Save, or press **Discard draft changes**. **Reload saved agreement (discard edits)** brings back the saved version. If the browser cannot keep a copy, the screen tells you to keep the page open and save before leaving.
