Alternative titles and performers help a society recognise the work. Next to them in the editor sit a panel that reads US Copyright Office records and a list of society work IDs you have confirmed.

## Add alternative titles

1. In the work editor, find **Alternative titles** and press **Add title**.
2. Type the title.
3. In **What kind of title**, choose **Alternative title**, **Original title (before a translation)** or **Extra search title (for example a common misspelling)**.
4. In **Title language**, choose the language by name.
5. Press **Save work**. To drop one, press **Remove title** and a number.

## Add performers

1. Find **Performers** and press **Add performer**.
2. Type the first name, and the **last name or group name**. A band goes in the second box.
3. If you know them, open **Performer identifiers (optional)** for the IPI number and the IPI base number. The base number starts with I-, for example I-000000229-7. See [the IPI base number problem](/docs/cwr/problems-and-fixes#ipi-base-number).
4. Press **Save work**.

Titles and names go into a CWR file in Latin letters. If one holds other scripts, enter its romanised form. See [the alternative title problem](/docs/cwr/problems-and-fixes#alternate-title-letters-unrepresentable) and [the performer problem](/docs/cwr/problems-and-fixes#performer-name-letters-unrepresentable).

## The US Copyright Office panel

The panel, **US Copyright Office**, sits with the status panels beside the form. It appears once the work has a title and at least one writer or publisher with a name, and it follows your edits before you save them.

**What it does.** It looks for US records that name the same title and one of the work's writers or publishers. Its fold, **US Copyright Office records** and a date, lists each registration or document found, with a link to the official record and a **Copy number** button for the number to search for. A record that deserves a second look is marked **Worth a look**, and the fold opens by itself. Cases include a claimant who is not on your work, a different list of writers, a recorded document about the song and a termination notice. If nothing is found, a line says so.

**What it does not do.** It does not change the work, fill in any box, add to your **To do** count or stop you saving. It matches by title and names, because these records carry no ISWC or ISRC, so a match is a lead and not a proof. It is not the official record, and the panel says so. No record does not mean the work is unregistered, since registration in the US is voluntary. If a list is longer than it can check, a line says how many it used.

If the check cannot run, the panel says so in one line with **Try again**. Your work is not affected. The same check is offered when you prepare a file. See [Prepare a file](/docs/workspace/files/prepare).

## Confirmed society work IDs

**Confirmed society work IDs** appears only when a registration file you supplied gave this work a society's ID. It lists the society, the ID, and the file it came from. **View identifier source** opens that file's record. If the list cannot load, press **Retry identifiers**. See [Upload your registration history](/docs/workspace/files/registration-history).
