title: Fix problems on a work
description: "Read what is holding a work back, go straight to the field to fix, and fix one cause across many works or a problem a society sent back."
keywords: [to do, problems, fix, needs information, details missing, details to confirm, what this means, rejected work, correction]
---

A work waits when it lacks something a society needs in a file. TrackForge lists what is missing, takes you to the box and explains why.

## Where problems are listed

- **On the work.** The **To do** panel sits beside the form, or above it on a narrow screen. Its count is only what stops a file.
- **Across the catalogue.** Press **Needs information (any society)**, or **Fix what is missing** on **Today**. The panel **What is holding your works up** appears above the list, with one entry for each cause.

The status is **Needs information**. A work's row says **Details missing**, **Today** says **Fix what is missing**, and the panel says **What is holding your works up**. They are the same thing. See [What the statuses mean](/docs/workspace/catalogue/statuses).

## Fix one work

1. Open the work. Pressing **Details missing** on its row lands you on **To do**.
2. Read each card headed **Needed before you can prepare a file**. It says what is wrong and what to do.
3. Press the link below the card that begins **Go to** and names the field. The cursor lands in the box. A cause in Settings, such as your sender details, has **Open Settings** too.
4. Press **What this means** for a fuller explanation, in a new tab. Not every problem has one.
5. Change the value and press **Save work**. TrackForge checks it again and the count falls.

To check changes before saving, or a new work you have not saved yet, use **Check current edits**. If a check could not run, press **Check again**. When nothing is left the panel reads **Nothing to do for the saved version.**

## Needed, worth checking and details to confirm

- **Needed** cards stop a file, and are counted.
- **Worth checking** cards are folded and never stop a file.
- **Details to confirm** are values that may have been filled in for you. They do not stop a file. Check them, then press **This value is right** (or **These values are right**). Changing a value and saving also confirms it.

## Fix one cause across many works

Each entry in **What is holding your works up** says how many works it holds up and which societies need it. The fold **Why it matters, and how to fix it** and the link **What this means** explain it. Owners and editors get buttons that settle it:

- **Add your publisher details** or **Review your societies** open Settings.
- A button that begins **Set the language for**, with twins for the musical category and version type, opens bulk edit with those works ticked. See [Edit many works at once](/docs/workspace/catalogue/edit-many).

Anyone can press **Open the first:** to open the first work, or **Show the** works to list them.

## When a society sent a work back

Open a rejected work from its response and a panel at the top is headed **Correcting revision for** and the society's name. It gives the society's reason and a button such as **Go to the writers**. The panel has no **What this means** link; the same problem's card in **To do** does. **To do** leads with a card for that society, headed **Needs correction**.

Fix the work and press **Save work**. The bar then reads **Your correction is saved. Next: prepare the replacement file.** and offers **Prepare the replacement**. There is no button to send the file again: you prepare a new file, send it yourself and record the send. See [Understand a response](/docs/workspace/files/understand-a-response) and [Fix and send again](/docs/workspace/files/fix-and-send-again).
