title: Lyrics and LyricFind
description: "Keep each work's lyrics in the Workspace and make LyricFind's lyrics file from them. Lyrics are never put in a CWR file."
keywords: [lyrics, LyricFind, lyric-1.2, Lyrics column, template, SongID]

The Workspace can keep each work's lyrics and make [LyricFind](https://www.lyricfind.com)'s lyrics file from them. CWR has no place for lyric text, so lyrics are never put in a CWR file. Your CWR file already gives LyricFind who wrote and publishes each work. The lyrics file adds the words.

Lyrics are kept beside the work, not in it. Saving or removing them does not change the work's version. It also leaves the work's status with each society, and any file you have prepared, as they are.

## Add lyrics to one work

1. Open the work. Lyrics are added to a work after it is saved, so save a new work first.
2. Find the card **Lyrics, for LyricFind (optional)**, below the performers.
3. Type or paste the lyrics, one line of the song per line.
4. Fill in **Lyrics language (optional)** only if the lyrics are in a different language from the work: a two-letter code such as en or pt. Left blank, the work's own language is used.
5. Press **Save lyrics**. **Remove lyrics** deletes them.

If you leave the work with lyrics typed but not saved, the Workspace asks before it lets you go.

LyricFind accepts up to 32,767 characters of lyrics for a song. If someone else saved the work's lyrics after you opened it, saving is refused: reload the page and try again.

## Add lyrics from a spreadsheet

A spreadsheet can carry lyrics in a column of its own. The CWR Workbench's template has one when you tick **Include a Lyrics column** as you download it.

- The Workspace suggests **Lyrics (for LyricFind, never in the CWR file)** for a column named Lyrics. Check the suggestion as usual. See [Import a spreadsheet](/docs/workspace/add-works/spreadsheet).
- A work's lyrics come from the first of its rows that has any. Another row of the same work with different lyrics is an error to fix in the sheet. Repeating the same lyrics is fine.
- The preview says whether the import adds, changes or removes a work's lyrics, with the number of lines. It does not show the words. A change to the lyrics alone saves no new version of the work.
- An empty Lyrics cell leaves saved lyrics as they are, unless you choose that empty cells remove saved values.
- To add lyrics to works you already have, import a sheet with your work reference and a Lyrics column. The rows match your saved works by reference.
- The import keeps a record of the sheet you uploaded, lyrics included, as it does for every other column. Removing a work's lyrics later does not change that record.
- If someone changes a work's lyrics between the preview and saving, saving stops and asks you to preview the import again.

## Make the LyricFind lyrics file

1. In the list of works, tick the works. See [Edit many works at once](/docs/workspace/catalogue/edit-many).
2. Press **Make LyricFind lyrics file**.
3. If LyricFind already has these songs, tick **These songs are updates to songs LyricFind already has**.
4. Press the button that begins **Make the file for**.
5. Download the lyric-1.2 file. Add your LyricFind login to the file's clientName and password, then upload it to LyricFind. TrackForge does not hold your LyricFind login.

Each work's reference becomes its SongID, the same reference your CWR file gives LyricFind. LyricFind also needs the work's title, at least one performer and a language. Writers, ISWC, ISRCs, duration and the first recording's album go in when the work has them.

The review list has three parts, which you can also download as a spreadsheet with **Download review list (CSV)**:

- **Needs fixing: left out of the file.** For example a work with no lyrics, no performer or no language. Fix the work, then make the file again.
- **Please check: included in the file.** A value was left out or read in a particular way. For example, when a work has several performers the first one is taken as the main artist.
- **About the whole file.** How the works were read.

The file is made when you ask for it and is not kept. Making it does not send anything to LyricFind.

## What LyricFind's other file needs

LyricFind's ownership-1.4 file carries ownership and lyrics together. It needs LyricFind's own number for each publisher, so the Workspace does not make it yet. The CWR Workbench's [LyricFind converter](https://trackforge.studio/cwr-tool/lyricfind) makes it from LyricFind's spreadsheet.
