title: Fix and send again
description: "Fix a work a society rejected, save it, prepare a replacement file, send it yourself and record the new send."
keywords: [fix, rejected work, send again, resend, replacement file, correction, needs correction, prepare replacement]
---

When a society rejects a work, its card says **Needs correction**. There is no button that sends a file again, and TrackForge sends nothing itself. You fix the work, save it, prepare a new file for it, send that file yourself and record the send.

How to act on a response: each work in it is accepted, needs a correction, or has no answer yet. There is no button to send a file again, so a correction goes back through a new file.

## Before you start

Read what the society said. See [Understand a response](/docs/workspace/files/understand-a-response). You must be an owner or editor.

## Steps

1. Open the response. On Today, press **Review society response**, the main button when a society has said a work needs correction, or press **View response and history** on that work's card. If you have already saved a correction, the card offers **Continue correction**. Or choose **Files and responses** and open the file from **Preparation history**. The cards are under **Recorded deliveries and society responses**.
2. On the card of the rejected work, read the reason and **What to do next:**. Press the button **Fix and prepare a correction for** followed by the work's title.
3. The work opens with a box at the top headed **Correcting revision for** and the society's name. It gives the society's reason and, depending on the problem, a button such as **Go to the writers**. The fold **Review submitted version** shows exactly what you sent, to compare with the version you are editing. The same reason is on the work's **To do** panel.
4. Fix the work. See [Fix problems on a work](/docs/workspace/catalogue/fix-problems).
5. Press **Save work**. The bar at the top reads **Your correction is saved. Next: prepare the replacement file.**
6. Press **Prepare the replacement**. You return to the file, where the panel **Prepare a replacement for this response** has a button **Prepare replacement**. Press it.
7. The form is titled **Prepare response replacement**. It holds only the works the response names, with the original settings loaded for you to review. **What are you preparing?** starts with the purpose of the first file. If that was **New registration with this recipient**, a note says it is kept: a rejected work is not registered with that society yet, so you send its replacement as a new registration again. If the first file was an update, check the choice before you prepare. Choose an update only for a work the society has already accepted.
8. Press **Check and prepare file**. Then [download, send and record](/docs/workspace/files/send) the new file, as for any other. When the society replies, [upload its response](/docs/workspace/files/upload-a-response).

## What you will see

The first file and its response stay in history exactly as they were. On the first file, **Response replacements** lists the new one with **View replacement revision**. On the new file, **Replacement from a customer response** names the works it replaces, and **View original preparation** goes back. The new file starts as **Prepared — not sent**.

If you saved a fix before opening the response, its card says you have saved a newer version since the response. Check the fix, then prepare the replacement.

## If something goes wrong

- **A replacement is already prepared.** The form offers **Open existing replacement**.
- **A work was saved again after you chose it.** Press **Use the latest saved versions**.
- **The new file says **Can't prepare yet**.** Fix the problems it lists. See [Prepare a file](/docs/workspace/files/prepare).
- **There is no fix button on a card.** It appears only on the latest response for a work marked **Needs correction**, **Conflict**, **Not participating** or **Response needs review**, and only for owners and editors. A card marked **Accepted**, **Accepted with changes**, **Possible duplicate** or **Earlier response** has none. To change such a work, open it from the catalogue, then [prepare a file](/docs/workspace/files/prepare) as usual.
