## What you are looking at

A response is the society's reply to a file you sent it. TrackForge turns it into one card for each work in that file. A card shows the work's title, a badge with the society's result, and, unless the work was accepted, what the society said and what to do next. The link **How to read a response** on those cards opens this page.

Cards sit under the record of your send on the file's page, below **Recorded deliveries and society responses**. A line above them counts the results, problems first, for example "PRS replied: 1 Needs correction · 4 Accepted."

## What the badge means

| Badge | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| **Accepted** | The society accepted the version you sent. It is not proof that money has been collected. | Nothing. |
| **Accepted with changes** | The society accepted the work but changed some details. | Check them against your catalogue. Update your work if theirs are right. |
| **Needs correction** | The society rejected the work or asked for a correction. | Fix the part named, save, and prepare a correction file. See [Fix and send again](/docs/workspace/files/fix-and-send-again). |
| **Conflict** | Another party claims shares in the work. | Check your ownership and shares. Contact the society if your claim is right. |
| **Possible duplicate** | The society may already hold this work. | Check whether it was registered before. Prepare a correction only if the details differ. |
| **Not participating** | The society does not administer these rights for this work. | Nothing for that society. |
| **Response needs review** | TrackForge could not classify the response. | Read the society's message and decide whether the work needs a correction. |

The card's next-step line is headed **What to do next:**. These are the screen's own words, in short.

## What the society said

The box headed, for example, "What PRS said" (with the society's name) gives a plain sentence for each message. It starts with what the society did: rejected the whole file, rejected every work in a group, rejected this work's registration, or ignored one line or one value. It ends with the part of the work at fault, such as the work details, a writer, a publisher or a recording. For example: "PRS rejected this work’s registration because of a problem with a writer."

Under it, the society's original message appears in its own words. Where a message names the same work number or [ISWC](/docs/cwr/glossary#iswc) as another of your works, the card explains why that matters and a **Where:** line says where to put it right.

The line under the title shows the society, the version you submitted and, when the society gave the work its own number, that reference. **Earlier response** means a later response has replaced it. A line such as "PRS answered for ABRAMUS." means one body answered on behalf of another.

## Technical details

Open **Technical details and submitted work** to see exactly what you submitted. It says which saved version is current now and whether the work has changed since. It shows the submitted writers and publishers with their shares, and a table with **Message type**, **Level**, **Record** and **Validation number**. Most readers never need it.

## Prepared, sent and accepted

These are three different things. Prepared means the file is built. Sent means you sent it and recorded it. Accepted means the society accepted the version you sent. See [What the statuses mean](/docs/workspace/catalogue/statuses).
