# Logins societies issue

Many societies take CWR files on an SFTP server of their own and give each publisher a login. If a society has given you one, add it as a connection and the Workspace uses it. See [Society connections](/docs/workspace/settings/society-connections).

The Workspace does not apply for a login for you. Whatever a society asks for first, such as membership or a test file, is between you and the society. Once it has given you the login, enter it as it gave it to you.

## What every society gives you

- A **username** and either a **password** or a **private key**.
- The **server address**, and sometimes a port other than 22.
- The **folders** to put files in and to collect its answers from. Where it names none, leave both as `/`.
- Your **short code for filenames**: the 2 or 3 letters or digits your files are named with.

## MusicMark

MusicMark takes CWR files for ASCAP, BMI and SOCAN in one place. Files sent to MusicMark are addressed to receiver code 707, which the Workspace fills in.

- Your publisher must be a member or affiliate of ASCAP, BMI or SOCAN. MusicMark does not take files from members of other societies.
- After you apply, MusicMark sets up your submitter folder and login.
- MusicMark asks for a test file of up to 100 works on its test server before it issues the live login. Use the live login in the Workspace.
- Each file must cover the World, North America, the US or Canada.

The server address starts as `ftp.musicmark.com`. Change it only if MusicMark gave you another.

## SAMRO

Files sent to SAMRO are addressed to receiver code 063.

- Your publisher must be a SAMRO publisher member.
- SAMRO gives each publisher its own server address and login. It does not publish them, and it has changed them before, so enter the latest details SAMRO sent you.

## CMRRA

CMRRA handles Canadian mechanical rights. Files sent to CMRRA are addressed to receiver code 088.

- Your publisher needs a CMRRA account.
- CMRRA sends the server address with the login. Files go in `/incoming` and CMRRA's answers come back in `/outgoing`, which the Workspace fills in.
- CMRRA's guide calls its server FTP. The Workspace connects only over SFTP, which is encrypted, so ask CMRRA for SFTP access if your login does not work.

## HFA

HFA, part of SESAC, handles US mechanical rights. Files sent to HFA are addressed to receiver code 034.

- Your publisher needs an HFA account.
- Email cwrdelivery@sesac.com to set up CWR delivery. HFA then gives you a secure server address and login.

## Another society

Choose **Another society** for any other society that gave you an SFTP login for CWR files.

- Enter the society's name in **Society**.
- Enter its three-digit code in **Receiver file code**, as the society gave it to you. 000 is not accepted here: it means a file for several societies.
- Enter the server, port and folders exactly as the society gave them.

## Confirm the server the first time

The first time you save or test the login for a new connection, the Workspace reaches the server but does not send your login yet. The tile shows **Confirm this server** with the server's fingerprint, a line starting `SHA256:`.

1. Check that the fingerprint matches the one the society gave you, or ask the society for it.
2. Press **Trust this server**.
3. Press **Test and save login** again, or **Test connection** if your login is already saved. This time your login is sent.

From then on, a test, a check for responses or a send stops if the server shows any other fingerprint. That way your login only ever goes to the server you confirmed. If you change the server address or port, you confirm the new server again.

## If the society changes its server

Societies sometimes move to a new server. If the server shows a different fingerprint from the one you trusted, the test stops before your login is sent, and the tile shows **This server has changed** with the new fingerprint.

1. Ask the society whether its server changed, and for the new fingerprint.
2. If they match, press **Trust this server** and press **Test connection** again.

If the society gave you a new server address too, change it with **Edit details** first, then confirm the new server as above.

## If something goes wrong

- ****Save connection details** stays switched off.** The server address must be a name such as `sftp.society.org`, and each folder starts with `/`. For another society, the name and a three-digit receiver code are needed.
- **The test says the server address is not a public address.** The name points inside a private network. Use the address the society gave you for the internet.
- **The test says the society did not accept the login.** Check the username and password or key with the society. MusicMark's test-server login does not work on its live server.
