**Today** works out the one thing to do next and lists everything else that is waiting. Use this page to follow your next step, open the works that need information, and deal with an unfinished import.

## Follow your next step

1. Open **Today**.
2. Read the panel marked **Your next step**. Its heading says what to do and the line below says why.
3. Press the button, which opens the screen where you do it.

If you can only look, the panel reads **Your catalogue at a glance**, with a **View catalogue** button. While the **Get set up** card still has works, societies or publisher details to do, owners and editors see the card's button instead. See [Your first file in five steps](/docs/workspace/start-here).

Today picks the first of these that applies:

1. **Continue import**, when an import has works left to review.
2. Something a society or a check has raised: a rejected work (**Review society response**), a work registered differently from your catalogue (**Review the differences**), a work TrackForge could not check (**Review incomplete checks**), or a file whose response is overdue (**Open recorded delivery**). These come before works that need information.
3. **Fix what is missing**, when works need information before they can go in a file.
4. **Prepare work**, when a work is ready and none needs information.
5. **Import your first works**, when the catalogue is empty.
6. Your files: **Review preparation issues**, **Record that you sent your file** or **Open the file you sent**.
7. **Choose works to prepare**, when nothing else is waiting.

## Open the works that need information

1. On **Today**, find the card **Needs you** and its **Needs information** group, which shows how many works. A single work has its own card with **Open work**.
2. With two or more works, the table **What is missing** lists each cause and its works.
3. Press **Fix what is missing**. The catalogue opens filtered to **Needs information (any society)**, with the panel **What is holding your works up** above the list.
4. To go straight to one work, choose **Show the works** in the group, then a title. **Back to Today** returns you.
5. Fix the work using its explanation. See [Fix problems on a work](/docs/workspace/catalogue/fix-problems).

A work's chip in the catalogue list calls this same state **Details missing**.

## What else Needs you holds

A cause covering several works or files is one group with a count and one button, for owners and editors.

- **Couldn't check**: **Open Settings**.
- **Registration differs from catalogue**: **Review the differences**.
- **Ready**: **Prepare a file**.
- Overdue **Awaiting response**: **Open your files**.
- **Needs correction**: **Open Files and responses**.

A single work or file is a card with the reason, the next action and buttons such as **Open work** (**View work** if you can only look), **Continue correction** and **View response and history**. There is no button to send a file again. For a rejected work you fix and save it, prepare a new file, send it yourself and record the send. See [Fix and send again](/docs/workspace/files/fix-and-send-again).

## Continue or discard an unfinished import

An import you did not finish appears as an **Unfinished import** card with the file name, upload date and number of works saved.

- **Continue import** reopens it where you left off. See [Review an import before saving](/docs/workspace/add-works/review).
- **Discard import** asks you to confirm. If some works are already saved, the confirmation says it will keep them, and its button reads **Skip the rest**.

Discarding never removes works you have already saved.

## If something goes wrong

- **Needs you is empty.** It holds missing details, society corrections and overdue responses. A file waiting for a reply is under **Files in progress**.
- **A note says some items are not shown.** Choose **Open the catalogue** to review the rest.
